EU-US Summit “The Future of our Digital World”
Covid-19 forced us all to rethink our digital lifes. How dependent are we on online platforms? Who sets the rules in our digital world? And who is responsible for supervising them? It‘s time to think about the optimal future we want for our digital world.
On Thursday, September 30th 17.30-21.00h CET (11.30-15.00 ET) we will discuss these and many other questions with a full line up of experts, politicians and academics during the summit The Future of Our Digital World. European Parliament groups Greens/EFA, S&D, Renew Europe and the Left have joined forces with Accountable Tech, EDRi and SumOfUs to organize the first high-level EU-US summit where your voice also needs to be heard!
Together with headliners Prof. Shoshana Zuboff and European Commissioner Breton (TBV), we will answer questions on who should ‘own’ the internet. How are rights and freedoms protected and guaranteed? To what extend are ‘offline’ rules and laws working, and are they applicable in the online environment? And what is driving innovation?
Join Brittany Kaiser (transparency advocate, ex Cambridge Analytica) in a panel on disinformation and fair elections. Listen to Tim Hwang (general council Substack and author of Subprime Attention Crisis) in a panel on the economics of advertising. Follow Roger McNamee (one of Silicon Valley’s early investors) in a panel on meaningful accountability and how we put people back in charge.
You are also invited to join my panel where Burcu Kilic (Public Citizen), Jon von Tetzchner (CEO Vivaldi), Margarida Silva (Advocate, Corporate Europe Observatory) and Tommaso Valetti (Professor of Economics) will be discussing lobbying and the broad network that the tech giants are spinning to influence digital policies in Brussels.
Many more speakers will be present in the panels, and your questions can directly be asked to them during the summit.
Registration is free and will give you access to our virtual conference platform (hosted by Digivent). On this platform, you will be able to meet other participants, join our high-tech virtual stage for several keynotes, and go to our breakout rooms for the panel discussions.
