New study: How the men‘s internet is censoring women‘s health
Dear friends!
A new and groundbreaking study by the Centre for Intimacy Justice shows how Amazon, Google, Meta and Tiktok suppress content related to women‘s health.
Take Meta, for example, which rejects ads about breast cancer prevention, but accepts explicit advertising for male sexual performance. A staggering 63% of the reproductive and sexual health groups studied had their organic content taken down on Meta platforms such as Whatsapp and Instagram. Here are two examples:
This begs the question: Is that what Marc Zuckerberg calls freedom of expression? Or is it rather about pushing the Trump, Vance and Musk agenda of kicking women out of public life?
This new study makes clear: Digital platforms run by men in an authoritarian and intransparent way censor women and harm their health. At the same time, they accuse the EU of „censorship“ for making transparency and non-discrimination mandatory in the Digital Services Act.
The next time you hear them advocate for freedom of expression: Remind everybody of how they censor women.
That’s not just a feminist issue, it is a free speech issue.
Thanks to the Center for Intimate Justice for this great study and a recommendation to all of you to have a look hear: https://www.intimacyjustice.org/
Please, help by spreading the word, for example by sharing my post on LinkedIn, here.
I will continue to push for a forceful implementation of the rules in the Digital Services Act and other EU laws, that could stop this censorship of women’s free speech – if the EU Commission would stand their ground against the tech bros.
